CB Radio is a unique simple and easy to use, free and non licensed communication system. It is an invaluable tool for information circulation among the villagers. The unique aspect of CB is that it allows the villagers and the community players (Panchayats, retailers, schools, health offices, services like veterinarian, midwife, plumber …) in an area to interact directly with each other. No number, code or any other parameter is needed as long as both parties are using a CB Radio and are in range. This facilitates the flow of information and messages between the consumers and their interlocutors and also helps for safety (communicate medical emergencies, ask for help in case of no phone coverage or bad weather conditions).

CB can be installed in vehicles (e.g., delivery cars, ambulances, buses, tractors, etc) or placed at a fixed location (e.g. Panchayat office, retailers, mandis, farms, petrol stations, mechanic shops, etc). The typical communication range is 5km (equivalent to circular area of 75 sq km) for a mobile installation and 10km (equivalent to circular area 150+ sq km) for a fixed installation.
